It was reported Visual D had a major slowdown even on medium (~500 lines) files. There are people who love old slow PC-s and expect Visual D to be as fast as Visual Studio used to be.
IMO it have to provide tokens highlighting, collapse regions, and autocomplete from text buffer and JSON info fast.

I suspect this is caused by the outlining. You might want to try disabling these in the "Colorizer" options.

It works fine at first but then something leaks and things become slower.

I've found idle processing to eat much more CPU resources than expected. Please try https://github.com/dlang/visuald/releases/tag/v0.44-beta2, it reduces the frequency of idle calls as well as mostly just dealing with the current active editor.
