http://wiki.dlang.org/DIP70 http://wiki.dlang.org/DIP71 In my recent DIPs I tried and failed to include links to the forum discussions. I followed the instructions on the home page, but to no avail. These are the links which didn't work: http://forum.dlang.org/thread/[email protected] http://forum.dlang.org/thread/[email protected] http://forum.dlang.org/post/[email protected]

Did you read the link in the error message? http://forum.dlang.org/help#canonical TL;DR: Substitute /thread/ with /post/ in your links to make the Wiki software accept them. I understand that it is annoying that the forum URLs copied from the browser address bar are non-canonical and that the wiki doesn't just automatically fix them. However, at least the first two links are not canonical, so this issue is invalid.

However, the help page was not clear in indicating that only a post and not a thread was valid. I only posted this bug because I followed the instructions on the help page and it still failed. I must have copied the link to the thread at the top of the page rather than the initial post of the thread. Then I wasn't astute enough to notice that a valid link could only have "post". The thread link didn't seem any longer or more complicated, so I couldn't tell that it was invalid. There are plenty of links one might naively copy that have thread instead of post, based on the existing instructions. My suggestion: Emphasize in the help message that it must be a *post* and not a thread. Suggested sentence: "Note that a valid link must be to an individual post, not to a thread." Or whatever you think would make it clearer. (I won't reopen this as documentation enhancement, assuming the change is trivial, but I would like it made clearer.)

Actually, I will reopen this as a documentation enhancement. Feel free to reject it and close again.
