use NullLogger as the default instead of outputting to stderr

It doesn't make sense to use null logger as default as nothing will be logged. Is there any reasoning behind this? Any specific use case you have in mind?

I don't think that makes any sense, people who use the logger expect output, this will only lead to confusion. And, of course, there's a workaround: set the global logger to NullLogger.
